5 iPhone Apps For the NFL Season

NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- The 2012 NFL season is fast approaching, and whether you're a fan of the Super Bowl-winning New York Giants, the New England Patriots, or someone else, you'll want to enjoy all the highs (and lows) that football has to offer.

Once you've gotten all the snacks and drinks, and you've set up your big screen TV and surround system, you'll no doubt want to download some apps to enhance your pleasure watching every single NFL game. Then, of coure, there are all the recap shows and sports talk shows discussing and dissecting your favorite team.

Here are five apps from Apple's ( AAPL) iTunes Store that you can download to make your 2012 NFL season experience more enjoyable, no matter what team you're a fan of.

Domino's Pizza

Of course you'll want to order wings for the game(s), and the free Domino's app for iPhone and iPad lets you do that, and much more.

The app allows you to order from almost any of the nearly 5,000 Domino's locations across the country. The Domino's app is also available on Google Play, Google's ( GOOG) competitor to iTunes.

The app gives you a multitude of things to do with your order. You can build your own pizza, enter any coupons you might have, choose pick-up or delivery, all from the comfort of your couch. Upon ordering, you can even check the status of your feast, using the app's Tracker feature, which lets you see when your food is being made and finally, when it is out for delivery.

Domino shares have gained 3.12% year-to-date, under-performing the 11.13% gain of the S&P 500.

Yahoo! Fantasy Football

While you're mowing down on the wings, pizza, burgers and whatever else, you'll want to check on your Yahoo! fantasy teams, using Yahoo's ( YHOO) free Fantasy Football Sports 2012 app.

With this fantasy tracker, you can follow live scoring on your team during the games. You can also mange your roster right from the app, check your match-up, read any breaking news on a player (good or bad), and get access to the league message boards after your league has drafted.

Shares of Yahoo! have drastically under-performed this year, losing 9.11%. The Nasdaq has gained 16.83% since the start of 2012.

NFL Sunday Ticket

If you're a DirectTV ( DTV) subscriber and you have NFL Sunday Ticket, downloading the free app will let you catch every game, no matter where you are.

The app, which is also available for the iPad, lets you follow your favorite team no mater what state you live in. Not only do you get to enjoy each and every game, but the app also lets you tune into the RED ZONE CHANNEL®, which highlights games when a team is about to score.

You can check out all the highlights from every game, and check up on scores and the statuses of games in progress. There's also a feature to see which games are next week, so you can set your schedule accordingly. The app also has an "Instant Stat" feature that lets you track your fantasy football players and get their stats instantly.

Shares of DirectTV have out-performed the Nasdaq since the start of 2012, gaining 21.49%.

NFL '12

What would the 2012 NFL season be without the official NFL app?

This app, which works for both iPhone and iPad, provides both preseason and regular season updated scoring and statistics, and gives you the latest news and updates from the NFL's website, NFL.com.

Unlike the other news apps, you have the ability to customize it with your favorite team. If you're a Steelers fan and you want to hear the latest on Ben Roethlisberger, you can do so. You can also hear live audio commentary from the games, as well as watch NFL.com Thursday Night Football Live, but that's exclusive to the iPad, costing $1.99 per week, or $9.99 for the whole season.

If you feel like venturing out of the house on a Sunday, Buffalo Wild Wings' ( BWLD) free app lets you find the company's nearest location.

In addition to being a restaurant locator, the app allows you to choose your favorite wings, beer or sports.

Shares of Buffalo Wild Wings have under-performed the Nasdaq since the start of 2012, gaining 15.83%.
