NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- LoJack Corporation (Nasdaq: LOJN) has been downgraded by TheStreet Ratings from hold to sell. The company's weaknesses can be seen in multiple areas, such as its generally disappointing historical performance in the stock itself, deteriorating net income, disappointing return on equity and weak operating cash flow.

Highlights from the ratings report include:
  • The share price of LOJACK CORP has not done very well: it is down 20.44% and has underperformed the S&P 500, in part reflecting the company's sharply declining earnings per share when compared to the year-earlier quarter. Looking ahead, we do not see anything in this company's numbers that would change the one-year trend. It was down over the last twelve months; and it could be down again in the next twelve. Naturally, a bull or bear market could sway the movement of this stock.
  • The company, on the basis of change in net income from the same quarter one year ago, has significantly underperformed when compared to that of the S&P 500 and the Electronic Equipment, Instruments & Components industry. The net income has significantly decreased by 1106.8% when compared to the same quarter one year ago, falling from $0.22 million to -$2.23 million.
  • Return on equity has greatly decreased when compared to its ROE from the same quarter one year prior. This is a signal of major weakness within the corporation. Compared to other companies in the Electronic Equipment, Instruments & Components industry and the overall market on the basis of return on equity, LOJACK CORP underperformed against that of the industry average and is significantly less than that of the S&P 500.
  • Net operating cash flow has significantly decreased to -$2.45 million or 164.84% when compared to the same quarter last year. In addition, when comparing to the industry average, the firm's growth rate is much lower.
  • LOJN, with its decline in revenue, slightly underperformed the industry average of 3.6%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues slightly dropped by 5.5%. Weakness in the company's revenue seems to have hurt the bottom line, decreasing earnings per share.

LoJack Corporation provides technology products and services for the tracking and recovery of mobile assets, stolen vehicles, motorcycles, construction equipment, cargo, and people at risk. The company has a P/E ratio of 269, below the average diversified services industry P/E ratio of 275 and above the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. LoJack has a market cap of $50.1 million and is part of the services sector and diversified services industry. Shares are down 16.3% year to date as of the close of trading on Monday.
