Vitamins Are

BOCA RATON, Fla., Aug. 14, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- If you take vitamins and are feeling great, you probably have more than just the vitamins to thank for your improved health. Nearly two-thirds of the 1,011 consumers responding to a new survey by Vitacost.com, Inc. (Nasdaq:VITC), a leading online retailer of health and wellness products, said they made other healthy lifestyle choices when they began taking vitamins and supplements, including eating more fruits, vegetables and whole foods and exercising more frequently. Respondents also reported adopting other healthy habits, such as smoking cessation, weight loss efforts, and eating out less often.

"Vitacost.com conducted this survey to better understand the needs of our customers," stated David Zucker, Ph.D., Chief Marketing Officer of Vitacost.com, which sells nearly 40,000 items on its website, including vitamins and supplements, as well as organic health foods and sports and fitness products. "We are happy to be able to support consumers who are seeking discount prices on not only a vast array of vitamins and supplements, but also other products that go hand-in-hand with wellness."

In addition to questions about lifestyle changes, the nationwide survey asked consumers questions about their vitamin and supplement habits, including how frequently they take vitamins and supplements, their motives for nutritional supplementation and how the cost of vitamins and supplements impacts their budgets. Seventy-three percent of respondents reported taking vitamins daily. Also, consumers reported they were twice as likely to receive their information about vitamins from the media as from doctors. For 67% of consumers, the cost of vitamins or supplements puts a strain on their expenses and must be included in their household budget.

For those customers whose wallets are hit by the expense of nutritional supplementation, Vitacost.com carries an extensive selection of vitamins, minerals, herbs and supplements from more than 600 different brands, priced up to 50% off retail. Vitacost also offers steep discounts on its vast array of healthy living products including organic and gluten-free foods, baby care essentials, pet products, sports nutrition and natural beauty and home care products with orders over $49 shipped for free.
