Best Buy Co Inc Stock Hold Recommendation Reiterated (BBY)

NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Best Buy (NYSE: BBY) has been reiterated by TheStreet Ratings as a hold with a ratings score of C- . The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its revenue growth, growth in earnings per share and increase in net income. However, as a counter to these strengths, we also find weaknesses including disappointing return on equity, poor profit margins and weak operating cash flow.

Highlights from the ratings report include:
  • Despite its growing revenue, the company underperformed as compared with the industry average of 9.7%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues slightly increased by 6.1%. Growth in the company's revenue appears to have helped boost the earnings per share.
  • BEST BUY CO INC has improved earnings per share by 34.3% in the most recent quarter compared to the same quarter a year ago. This company has reported somewhat volatile earnings recently. But, we feel it is poised for EPS growth in the coming year. During the past fiscal year, BEST BUY CO INC swung to a loss, reporting -$3.17 versus $3.12 in the prior year. This year, the market expects an improvement in earnings ($3.62 versus -$3.17).
  • The gross profit margin for BEST BUY CO INC is currently lower than what is desirable, coming in at 27.10%. It has decreased from the same quarter the previous year. Along with this, the net profit margin of 1.40% trails that of the industry average.
  • Net operating cash flow has significantly decreased to $581.00 million or 56.11% when compared to the same quarter last year. In addition, when comparing to the industry average, the firm's growth rate is much lower.

Best Buy has a market cap of $6.52 billion and is part of the services sector and retail industry. Shares are down 17.8% year to date as of the close of trading on Friday.
