Fushi Copperweld Inc. Stock Upgraded (FSIN)

NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Fushi Copperweld (Nasdaq: FSIN) has been upgraded by TheStreet Ratings from hold to buy. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures, attractive valuation levels and solid stock price performance. We feel these strengths outweigh the fact that the company has had somewhat weak growth in earnings per share.

Highlights from the ratings report include:
  • FSIN's debt-to-equity ratio is very low at 0.02 and is currently below that of the industry average, implying that there has been very successful management of debt levels. Along with this, the company maintains a quick ratio of 11.57, which clearly demonstrates the ability to cover short-term cash needs.
  • Looking at where the stock is today compared to one year ago, we find that it is not only higher, but it has also clearly outperformed the rise in the S&P 500 over the same period, despite the company's weak earnings results. Turning our attention to the future direction of the stock, it goes without saying that even the best stocks can fall in an overall down market. However, in any other environment, this stock still has good upside potential despite the fact that it has already risen in the past year.
  • FSIN, with its decline in revenue, slightly underperformed the industry average of 2.7%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues slightly dropped by 5.7%. The declining revenue appears to have seeped down to the company's bottom line, decreasing earnings per share.
  • The gross profit margin for FUSHI COPPERWELD INC is currently lower than what is desirable, coming in at 31.70%. Regardless of FSIN's low profit margin, it has managed to increase from the same period last year. Despite the mixed results of the gross profit margin, the net profit margin of 7.80% trails the industry average.

Fushi Copperweld, Inc., through its subsidiaries, engages in designing, developing, manufacturing, marketing, and distributing copper-clad bimetallic wire products, principally copper-clad aluminum (CCA) and copper-clad steel (CCS). The company has a P/E ratio of 11.2, equal to the average industrial industry P/E ratio and below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. Fushi Copperweld has a market cap of $339.6 million and is part of the industrial goods sector and industrial industry. Shares are up 17.4% year to date as of the close of trading on Thursday.
