The Pantry, Inc. (Nasdaq:PTRY), the leading independently operated convenience store chain in the southeastern United States, today announced it is celebrating National Hot Dog Day on Monday, July 23 by offering a free hot dog to every guest of its 1,160 grill-ready Kangaroo Express convenience stores. Guests can stop by any participating Kangaroo Express on Monday, July 23 between 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. to pick up a free Ball Park® hotdog. (One per customer, while supplies last.) That’s a savings of $1.39. Paired with a Roo Cup refill, guests can pick up a dog and a drink for just $.25. The hot dog has long been a part of iconic American celebrations and pastimes, including Independence Day and summer baseball games. Pairing perfectly with American pride, Kangaroo Express guests can enjoy their Ball Park® hotdog while supporting the military men and women who protect our freedom by donating to the Salute Our Troops® fundraising campaign. “National Hot Dog Day is a holiday that all Americans can support, whether it’s about their love for the hot dog itself or about the pride and patriotism that it represents,” said John Fisher, senior vice president of marketing, merchandising and restaurant operations, Kangaroo Express. “What better way is there to celebrate than to show our customers – and our military – that we care about them? We invite you to come into Kangaroo Express to enjoy a free hot dog on us, and help support the troops who protect our freedoms.” Through Labor Day, Kangaroo Express is inviting guests to make donations to the Salute Our Troops campaign, directly supporting the USO, lifting the spirits of America’s troops and their families; Wounded Warrior Project, honoring and empowering injured servicemen and women; and six state-based military support organizations. In its inaugural year, the 2011 Salute Our Troops campaign raised $2.5 million dollars, breaking fundraising records for many beneficiary organizations, including the largest grassroots fundraising initiative in the USO’s 70-year history.
