FX Energy Inc. Stock Upgraded (FXEN)

NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- FX Energy (Nasdaq: FXEN) has been upgraded by TheStreet Ratings from sell to hold. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its robust revenue growth, increase in net income and expanding profit margins. However, as a counter to these strengths, we also find weaknesses including disappointing return on equity, weak operating cash flow and a generally disappointing performance in the stock itself. Highlights from the ratings report include:

  • FXEN's revenue growth has slightly outpaced the industry average of 11.7%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues rose by 20.1%. Growth in the company's revenue appears to have helped boost the earnings per share.
  • The net income growth from the same quarter one year ago has significantly exceeded that of the S&P 500 and the Oil, Gas & Consumable Fuels industry. The net income increased by 124.7% when compared to the same quarter one year prior, rising from $6.53 million to $14.68 million.
  • FXEN's debt-to-equity ratio of 0.62 is somewhat low overall, but it is high when compared to the industry average, implying that the management of the debt levels should be evaluated further. Even though the debt-to-equity ratio shows mixed results, the company's quick ratio of 6.38 is very high and demonstrates very strong liquidity.
  • Return on equity has greatly decreased when compared to its ROE from the same quarter one year prior. This is a signal of major weakness within the corporation. Compared to other companies in the Oil, Gas & Consumable Fuels industry and the overall market, FX ENERGY INC's return on equity significantly trails that of both the industry average and the S&P 500.
  • Net operating cash flow has declined marginally to $4.65 million or 0.95% when compared to the same quarter last year. In addition, when comparing the cash generation rate to the industry average, the firm's growth is significantly lower.
. FX Energy, Inc. engages in the exploration and production of oil and gas properties primarily in Poland and the United States. The company primarily focuses on the exploration of Rotliegend sandstones in the Permian Basin, Poland. FX Energy has a market cap of $288.4 million and is part of the basic materials sector and energy industry. Shares are up 5.6% year to date as of the close of trading on Wednesday.
