UnitedHealthcare And IronKids Team Up To Help Youths Stay Active And Healthy

UnitedHealthcare will serve as the title sponsor for a dozen IronKids ® races nationwide this year to help inspire and motivate youths to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.

Open to participants ages 6 to 15, the UnitedHealthcare IronKids National Race Series features age-appropriate triathlon and short-distance running events that offer the opportunity to compete in a fun environment. The races enable kids to participate in physical activities they enjoy in their daily lives – swimming, bicycling and running.

“We are excited to work with an organization that shares in our commitment of providing young people the chance to be active and discover sport,” said Andrew Messick, Chief Executive Officer of Ironman. “UnitedHealthcare’s continued education on the benefits of healthy living fits well with the mission of IronKids, and we look forward to working with their team.”

UnitedHealthcare’s sponsorship of IronKids races is part of the company’s overall commitment to help stem the rising tide of childhood obesity by promoting the benefits of healthy lifestyles. According to recent data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in three children is obese or overweight, putting them at increased risk of lifelong chronic conditions like diabetes and heart disease.

“The IronKids races will create a fun environment where children and teens can strengthen their self-confidence and self-esteem,” said Jeff Alter, CEO of UnitedHealthcare. “Reinforcing the benefits of healthy lifestyles at an early age – and showing that exercise can be fun – will set the right example for our nation’s youth and create a culture of health that will stay with them for life.”
