Dynamics Research Corporation Stock Downgraded (DRCO)

NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Dynamics Research Corporation (Nasdaq: DRCO) has been downgraded by TheStreet Ratings from buy to hold. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its robust revenue growth, attractive valuation levels and good cash flow from operations. However, as a counter to these strengths, we also find weaknesses including feeble growth in the company's earnings per share, deteriorating net income and disappointing return on equity.

Highlights from the ratings report include:
  • The revenue growth came in higher than the industry average of 1.1%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues rose by 23.5%. This growth in revenue does not appear to have trickled down to the company's bottom line, displayed by a decline in earnings per share.
  • The debt-to-equity ratio is somewhat low, currently at 0.99, and is less than that of the industry average, implying that there has been a relatively successful effort in the management of debt levels. Although the company had a strong debt-to-equity ratio, its quick ratio of 0.99 is somewhat weak and could be cause for future problems.
  • The company, on the basis of change in net income from the same quarter one year ago, has significantly underperformed when compared to that of the S&P 500 and the IT Services industry. The net income has significantly decreased by 33.9% when compared to the same quarter one year ago, falling from $2.71 million to $1.79 million.
  • The company's current return on equity has slightly decreased from the same quarter one year prior. This implies a minor weakness in the organization. In comparison to the other companies in the IT Services industry and the overall market, DYNAMICS RESEARCH CORP's return on equity is significantly below that of the industry average and is below that of the S&P 500.
.

Dynamics Research Corporation provides management consulting, engineering, technical, and information technology (IT) services and solutions to federal and state governments. The company has a P/E ratio of 7.2, equal to the average computer software & services industry P/E ratio and below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. Dynamics Research has a market cap of $76.1 million and is part of the technology sector and computer software & services industry. Shares are down 36.6% year to date as of the close of trading on Tuesday.
