Dion's Monday ETF Winners and Losers

NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Here are five ETFs to watch this week.

Winners

iPath Dow Jones UBS Natural Gas Subindex Total Return ETN (GAZ) 8.7%

Natural gas futures are heading higher after last week's shaky action. The gains seen from the United States Natural Gas Fund ( UNG) have helped to quash the fund's five-day slide.

UNG's gains are dwarfed by GAZ, however. This ETN's standout action can be attributed to its substantial premium. This is not a fund to toy with.

Market Vectors Coal ETF (KOL) 2.4%

March was a shaky month for resource producers as China slowdown fears stole headlines. This issue lingers, but as we start a new month and quarter funds like KOL and the Market Vectors Rare Earth/Strategic Metals ETF ( REMX) are scoring solid gains. These funds should be approached with extreme caution. In the event that fears crop up, they could be in for some weakness.

iShares Silver Trust (SLV) 2.2%

Silver saw mixed action last week as global turmoil caused precious metals to waver. SLV is kicking off April on a positive note, however, ascending back towards its 50-day moving average.

Other precious metal ETFs like the ETFS Physical Palladium Shares ( PALL) are gaining ground as well.

Losers

iPath S&P 500 VIX Short Term Futures ETN (VXX) -2.3%

As major U.S. stock market indices prepare to close out the first day of Q2 2012 trading on a positive note, exchange traded products linked to the fear index are heading lower. A three day streak of losses has helped to push VXX back towards previous all-time lows.

The iPath S&P 500 VIX Mid Term Futures ETN ( VXZ) is trading at record lows.

Market Vectors Solar Energy ETF (KWT) -1.6%

Solar energy stocks are seeing losses, pushing KWT to its fifth consecutive day of negative action. The fund's downturn has been swift; it is currently trading at levels last seen at the start of the year. The Guggenheim Solar ETF ( TAN) is also trading at new year-to-date lows.

iShares Dow Jones U.S. Home Construction Index Fund (ITB) -0.9%

The real estate sector is witnessing some mixed action as we approach the closing bell. While residential homebuilder ETFs like ITB and the SPDR S&P Homebuilder ETF ( XHB) slide, funds backed by real estate investment trusts like the iShares Dow Jones Real Estate Index Fund ( IYR) are witnessing some slight gains.
