Symetra Life Insurance Company today announced the hiring of two new external wholesalers and a new internal wholesaling manager to drive life sales and strengthen partner support in select territories across the country. The new hires are part of the company’s ongoing strategy to expand its life distribution network and wholesaling force.

"With the recent release of our competitive universal life insurance product — Symetra Classic UL — and more new products to come in 2012, we are building our wholesaling team with well-known professionals. The new members of our life distribution team reinforce Symetra’s commitment to growing our life business,” said Jon Curley, executive vice president of Symetra’s Life Division.

Two new regional vice presidents will represent Symetra’s life insurance product portfolio with brokerage general agencies (BGAs) and other independent life professionals in the following territories:

Reynaldo (Rey) Castro — Territory: Northwest/Rockies — Castro comes to Symetra from Sun Life Financial, where he served as a regional vice president and external wholesaler since 2008. At Sun Life, Castro worked with BGAs, independent producers, broker-dealer reps and institutional advisors across a five-state territory. He previously held wealth management, financial planning and insurance sales positions at Merrill Lynch, Paine Webber and MetLife. Castro is a LUTCF, and has his Series 7, 63 and Life and Health insurance licenses. He is based in Sacramento, Calif.

James Weaver — Territory: Southeast — Also joining Symetra from Sun Life, Weaver worked as a regional vice president and wholesaler, representing life insurance products in a seven-state area. He covered wire houses, banks, general agents and financial planners. In earlier roles, he was a wealth management consultant at Merrill Lynch, a sales manager at Prudential and a wholesaler at John Hancock. Weaver is a CFP®, ChFC and CLU, and holds Series 6, 7, 63, 65 and Life, Health and Annuity licenses. He is based in Charlotte, N.C.

Greg Rohtstein joins Symetra as the new internal wholesaling manager for the company’s individual life business. In this role, he is responsible for building out the team that will provide marketing, illustration and high-end sales support to Symetra’s external wholesalers and life producers nationwide. Most recently, Rohtstein was the life insurance sales desk manager for Sun Life Financial. He joined Sun Life in 2006 as a customer service representative and became a wholesaler the following year. Rohtstein has his Series 6 and 63 securities licenses as well as Life, Health and Annuity licenses in the state of Massachusetts. He is based in the Boston area.
