They can, however, be bought with the intention of being held long term. Low trading volume does not equate to illiquidity the way it does with individual stocks. I believe the fundamental strength of the region will continue to attract investors as many other developed markets continue to struggle, and the ETFs from iShares now make access easier for people who would rather not pick individual stocks.
