Pandora subscriptionConsider a subscription to Pandora One, the premium version of Pandora's ( P) music service, for the audiophile on your gift list. Pandora allows a user to generate a playlist of songs based on algorithms to deliver personalized radio stations, as opposed to waiting for that one hit song to come on the radio. Listeners can enter a song, artist, or genre to start a station. A one-year subscription to Pandora One runs $36, and allows the user to listen to ad-free music and enjoy a higher quality of audio than a free Pandora account. Pandora went public back in June, and at current levels, shares have fallen more than 35% below their initial pricing at $16 each as the company has come under fire from competitors like Spotify and Rhapsody.
A Netflix subscriptionYour tech aficionado probably does not have time to watch all the movies and TV shows he or she wants. A subscription to Netflix ( NFLX - Get Report) can remedy this problem. Netflix subscriptions start at as little as $7.99 per month, and the user can watch the content on a variety of devices, such as computers, TVs, Wii, Xbox, PS3, iPhone and iPad. You can give a gift subscription for as little as one month or go all the way up to one year. Netflix has come under pressure in 2011 after instituting a dramatic price hike and unveiling a plan to split off its DVD-by-mail operation into a separate business, Qwikster. CEO Reed Hastings later backed off on Qwikster but his credibility took a hit with both consumers and Wall Street. Since hitting a high of around $300 per share back in July, shares have lost almost 75% of their value. Year-to-date, the stock is down about 60%.
