5 Kitchens For Sale Worthy of a Top Chef

BOSTON (MainStreet) -- There's nothing like a fancy kitchen to cook up big interest in a home that's on the market.

"Kitchens are a huge factor in the price of a property," Atlanta real estate agent Debra Johnston says. "People spend so much time there these days that kitchens have become a lot more than just places to cook dinner."

>>The supremacy of the kitchen appliance started back in recession-tinged 2009.

Johnston says good kitchens and master bedrooms are the top things house hunters look for, with a nice kitchen adding $50,000 or more to a home's sale price.

"It's all about where people spend the most time when they're at home," she says. "That's what's most important to buyers."

Here are five homes for sale around the country that offer some of the coolest kitchens on the market today.

$32.9 million Malibu, Calif., villa
Listing agent: Bob Hurwitz, Hurwitz James Co., 310-477-8865
This 3-acre estate's open kitchen leads to the home's dining room and family room, where big glass doors connect you with a heated outdoor eating area overlooking the Pacific Ocean.

Open the doors and you can create a massive indoor/outdoor entertainment space capable of holding dozens of guests.

"The whole thing is designed for informal entertaining," listing agent Bob Hurwitz says. " The current owners wanted to take advantages of the site's beauty."

The kitchen also features a commercial-grade stove and oven, twin Sub-Zero refrigerators and a 15-seat table made for the space. There's even a separate butler's pantry with high-end dishwashers and other appliances.

In addition to the kitchen, the home offers six bedroom suites -- including a master suite Hurwitz calls "insanely upscale." The property also hosts an 18-car garage, saltwater pool and a private staircase leading to 290 feet of Pacific Ocean frontage.
