NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Key Tronic Corporation (Nasdaq: KTCC) has been upgraded by TheStreet Ratings from hold to buy. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its revenue growth, largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures and attractive valuation levels. We feel these strengths outweigh the fact that the company has had somewhat weak growth in earnings per share.

Highlights from the ratings report include:
  • The revenue growth significantly trails the industry average of 45.0%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues rose by 10.1%. This growth in revenue does not appear to have trickled down to the company's bottom line, displayed by a decline in earnings per share.
  • KTCC's debt-to-equity ratio is very low at 0.17 and is currently below that of the industry average, implying that there has been very successful management of debt levels. Along with the favorable debt-to-equity ratio, the company maintains an adequate quick ratio of 1.21, which illustrates the ability to avoid short-term cash problems.
  • The change in net income from the same quarter one year ago has significantly exceeded that of the Electronic Equipment, Instruments & Components industry average, but is less than that of the S&P 500. The net income has significantly decreased by 28.4% when compared to the same quarter one year ago, falling from $1.74 million to $1.25 million.
  • The share price of KEY TRONIC CORP has not done very well: it is down 11.82% and has underperformed the S&P 500, in part reflecting the company's sharply declining earnings per share when compared to the year-earlier quarter. Looking ahead, although the push and pull of the overall market trend could certainly make a critical difference, we do not see any strong reason stemming from the company's fundamentals that would cause a continuation of last year's decline. In fact, the stock is now selling for less than others in its industry in relation to its current earnings.

Key Tronic Corporation, doing business as KeyTronicEMS Co., together with its subsidiaries, provides electronic manufacturing services (EMS) and solutions to original equipment manufacturers in the United States, Mexico, and China. The company has a P/E ratio of 9.6, above the average computer hardware industry P/E ratio of 9.5 and below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. Key Tronic has a market cap of $50.4 million and is part of the technology sector and computer hardware industry. Shares are down 7.1% year to date as of the close of trading on Tuesday.
