NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Amazon ( AMZN) is paying consumers not to shop at brick-and-mortars.

The e-commerce giant will offer a promotion starting Saturday that awards shoppers $5 off a purchase when they use the company's price-comparison app in stores.

Amazon's Price Check app allows shoppers to scan a bar code, take a picture of an item or search the app to find the lowest prices.

Aside from stealing retail shoppers, Amazon is also looking to collect intel, asking users to also submit the price of items in stores.
