Onyx Service & Solutions Inc’s (OTCQB: ONYX) project team are heading back to Roatan, Honduras for meetings with the investors and law firm that are in the process of forming the financial cooperative to fund and operate the island’s proposed 22 MW solar power project. On October 7 th ONYX signed a letter of intent with BPRE, a Honduran company, to construct a new 18.5 MW solar power project on the island of Roatan. Shortly thereafter, BPRE executed a change order increasing the project to 22MWs. Villela & Villela, a prominent Honduran lobbying and legal firm has been tasked with forming the financial cooperative that will fund and operate the solar power project. Local resort owners and affluent citizens have expressed strong interest in fully funding the financial cooperative. Roatan is a premier tourism destination in the Caribbean, docks several cruise ship lines and was rated the “#1 island to retire on in the world” in the July 2011 issue of Islands Magazine. Currently, all of the island’s electricity is produced by diesel generators, which is costly for residents and businesses. Some of the island officials attribute the high cost and unreliability of the island’s current electrical infrastructure with impeding economic growth on the island.
