Xcel Energy Inc.'s nuclear power plant about 40 miles northwest of the Twin Cities was operating at full power again Monday after automatically shutting down 10 days ago.

Minneapolis-based Xcel (NYSE: XEL) said in a news release that the company replaced a cable that failed Oct. 21 at the Monticello plant.

"The cable failure caused a transformer to lock out, which briefly interrupted non-safety-related power from the grid to part of the site and prompted the plant to automatically shut down as designed," Xcel said in a news release.

Xcel said the situation posed no danger to the public or plant employees.
