NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- The Samsung Galaxy S-2 and HTC's Amaze 4G both work on T-Mobile's HSPA+ 42 data network currently being rolled out nationwide.

These are the first two smartphones able to take advantage of T-Mobile's new super-fast 4G network.

Both phones are capable of very fast download speeds. Maybe not as fast as Verizon's ( VZ) LTE -- but much faster than my home Cable modem connection from Time Warner ( TWX).

Neither phone comes close to 42Mbps data downloads -- but both have provided us with peak speeds of 14-16Mbps -- and that is as much as 50% faster than the Time-Warner cable Internet service coming into my home.

It's difficult to compare these two phones because they're so much alike in many ways. They both have a huge screen, both run on Android 2.3, as well as both operating on T-Mobile's new HSPA+/42Mbps data network.

Both are easy to use. Both sport the latest hardware and software features that you might expect from this level of smartphone -- from Wi-fi, Bluetooth, GPS and NFC, as well as 8-megapixel cameras and super large rechargeable batteries.

Yes, there are differences. The Samsung is a little bigger overall. The HTC is smaller and heavier.

But the Samsung sports their 4.5-in Super AMOLED screen -- while the Amaze 4G's screen measures 4.3 inches. The bigger Samsung's screen amounts to 0.22-inches more diagonally.

The HTC offers an HDMI output (with an optional dongle). And the Samsung has a larger battery but the HTC, at least in our tests, provided us with better battery life per charge.

The biggest difference is price. The Samsung retails for $230 and the HTC for $260. I'm not sure why one is more expensive than the other.

But, the bottom line is that both are super-fast, super-smartphones -- and both are worthy of your attention.
