Southern Co. Ups Q3 Profit To $916 Million

The Atlanta-based energy giant generated a 12 percent increase in profit in the third quarter, enjoying the positive impact of regulatory actions at Georgia Power that began in January. But it noted its earnings were also hurt by relatively cooler weather, primarily during September, compared to the third quarter of 2010.

  • Revenue: $5.43 billion, up 2 percent
  • Net Income: $916 million, up 12.1 percent
  • Earnings Per Share: $1.07, up 9.2 percent
