ZeaChem Inc., which is developing sustainable fuels and chemicals, said Tuesday it raised $19 million and added three new people to its board â¿¿ including Ross Pillari, former chairman and CEO of BP America.

ZeaChem is based in Lakewood, Colo., and its research and development lab is in Menlo Park.

Birchmere Ventures led the $19 million funding round, and partner Sean Sebastian joined ZeaChemâ¿¿s board along with Pillari and Charles Shaver, who has more than 30 years of experience in the chemicals industry, recently as president of the TPC Group Inc.

ZeaChem said it has a demonstration biorefinery where it will produce sustainable fuels and chemicals in Boardman, Ore., starting this year. And it said it is in the process of developing commercial-scale biorefineries, but did not indicate where.

ZeaChemâ¿¿s CEO is Jim Imbler.
