Former BP America CEO Joins ZeaChem Board

Ross Pillari, a former chairman and CEO of BP America Inc., has joined the board of ZeaChem Inc. as an independent director, the Lakewood-based biorefinery developer said Tuesday.

BP America is the Houston-based U.S. unit of London-based global energy company BP plc (ADR, NYSE: BP).

Pillari was with BP for 35 years, and served as BP Americas CEO from 2001 to 2007. He retired for the company before BP's involvement in the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill.

Pillari currently is an advisory board member to CVC Capital Partners Inc.

ZeaChem also announced that Charles Shaver has joined its board. Shaver previously served as president of The TPC Group Inc.

"ZeaChem welcomes Ross and Charlie to ZeaChem's Board of Directors. They bring unparalleled oil refining and marketing as well as chemicals industry experience to the ZeaChem team as we move toward commercialization," Jim Imbler, the company's president and CEO, said in a statement.

ZeaChem also announced it has raised $19 million in financing, led by Birchmere Ventures, whose partner, Sean D.S. Sebastian, has joined the ZeaChem board. It said that follow-on investment was provided by existing investors Firelake Capital, Globespan Capital Partners, Mohr Davidow Ventures, PrairieGold Venture Partners and Spring Ventures.
