NextEra Energy's Florida Power & Light Co. has been awarded the full request of a $196 million rate hike to help expand its nuclear power plants, multiple news organizations reported on Monday.

Customers will pay about $2.20 more per 1,000 kilowatt hours.

FPL plans to upgrade its existing plants in St. Lucie County and Turkey Point near Homestead, plus add two more nuclear units at Turkey Point.

Shares of Juno Beach-based NextEra (NYSE: NEE) closed Monday down 16 cents to $55.68. The 52-week high was $58.98 on May 16. The 52-week low was $49 on Aug. 9.
