Gas prices in the Birmingham area have dropped 2.9 cents in the past week to an average price of $3.28 per gallon Sunday, according to

The cost of gasoline in Birmingham is down 8.9 cents per gallon from a month ago, but was still 64.4 cents higher than in the same day a year ago, analysts at the gas price tracking company said.

Nationwide, gas prices increased 1.8 cents per gallon this past week to $3.47 Sunday, the company said.

Despite the death of Libya head Moammar Gadhafi this week, gas prices are not expected to drop, company analysts said.
