Office Depot's Boca Raton headquarters has been awarded the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Energy Star certification, signifying the building performs in the top 25 percent of similar facilities nationwide for energy efficiency. Energy Star buildings use an average of 35 percent less energy than typical buildings, and also release 35 percent less carbon, a news release from Office Depot said. "From the boiler room to the board room, organizations are leading the way by making their buildings more efficient and earning Energy Star certifications," said Jean Lupinacci, chief of the Energy Star Commercial & Industrial Branch. Measures Office Depot took include:
Replacing all T5 fluorescent lamps with 27-watt 4100 Kelvin lamps.
Changing all parking garage lights from 150-watt metal-halide to 42-watt fluorescent lamps.
Reducing the amount of lamps that are on during the daylight hours by 70 percent.
