Eaton Corp. (NYSE: ETN) has been awarded an $8.1 million contract for electrical power distribution for Arizona's largest solar power plant.

The Eaton Corp. system will be installed into the Abengoa Solar 280 MW Solana Generating Station that will open in 2013. It uses parabolic mirrors to follow the sun's path and a storage system that produces electricity on demand, even after sunset.

"Solana is a unique project that will help position Arizona as a leader in alternative energy and overall reduction of carbon dioxide emissions," said Kevin McLean, Eaton Corp. senior vice president of global marketing, electrical sector, in a prepared statement. "By combining the reliability and efficiency of Eaton's electrical distribution system with Solana's highly-innovative technology and energy storage capacity, the project can serve as a model for other utility providers."
