MINNEAPOLIS ( TheStreet) -- UnitedHealth ( UNH) earned $1.3 billion, or $1.17 a share in the third quarter, topping analysts' estimates, as enrollment grew in its health plans. The company also raised its outlook for 2011. UnitedHealth said revenue in the third quarter rose to $25.3 billion from $23.7 billion a year earlier, driven by an increase of 1.7 million people served with its medical benefit products in the past year, including 220,000 people in the third quarter. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expected UnitedHealth to earn $1.12 a share on revenue of $25.44 billion. Last year, the company earned $1.14 a share. UnitedHealth said Tuesday it expects 2011 revenue of more than $101 billion, and net earnings of $4.40 to $4.45 a share.
