The governor of Alaska is among the delegates attending the Interstate Oil and Gas Compact Commission's annual meeting in Buffalo.

Sean Parnell will assume his duties as the commission's new chairman. A different governor holds the post each year.

Parnell became governor of Alaska upon the resignation of Sarah Palin in 2009.

The commission's annual meeting, which is being held at the Adam's Mark Buffalo, began on Sunday and will continue through Tuesday.

The commission is an advocate for the rights of individual states to govern the oil and gas resources within their borders. It is based in Oklahoma City.
