The increased prices come as positive economic news reaches the market: European leaders discussing a plan to resolve the European debt crisis and the U.S. Department of Commerce reporting retail sales climbed 1.1 percent last month. "The market has waited more than a month for a piece of positive news to latch onto and drive oil prices higher,â¿ AAA Auto Club South spokeswoman Jessica Brady said in a news release. â¿¿Although the data caused investors to get bullish, it will be interesting to see if the increase in oil prices is sustainable. Retail gas prices already reacted to the two-week jump in oil prices and reversed the downward momentum reflected in September. We're likely to see gas prices continue to increase this week unless oil prices fall." South Florida fuel average details:
- Miami: A gallon of regular unleaded gasoline was $3.53, up from $3.44 the previous week and $2.88 a year ago.
- Fort Lauderdale: Regular unleaded was $3.51 a gallon, up from $3.46 the previous week and $2.87 a year ago.
- West Palm Beach/Boca Raton: Regular unleaded averaged $3.54 a gallon, up from $3.53 the previous week and $2.91 a year ago.
