Talks of a merger between Constellation Energy Group Inc. and Exelon Corp. date back to October 2010, but it will be more than a year after that before the deal might be approved.

The companies are seeking to unite in a $7.9 billion deal that would shift Constellation (NYSE: CEG) and Baltimore Gas and Electric Co. ownership to Chicago.

Here are milestones the company has met and expects to in the future:

â¿¢ April 28, 2011 â¿¿ Deal announced publicly.

â¿¢ Aug. 3, 2011 â¿¿ Texas Public Utility Commission approves deal.

â¿¢ Oct. 31-Nov. 10, 2011 â¿¿ Maryland Public Service Commission to hold hearings to review deal.

â¿¢ Nov. 17, 2011 â¿¿ Exelon (NYSE: EXC) and Constellation to hold shareholder votes on merger at meetings in Chicago and New York, respectively.

â¿¢ Nov. 29, Dec. 1, Dec. 5, 2011 â¿¿ PSC to hold public hearings around the region to hear from BGE customers.

â¿¢ Jan. 5, 2012 â¿¿ Deadline for PSC to accept or reject the merger.

â¿¢ First quarter of 2012 â¿¿ Companies plan to close deal.
