The state of Texasâ¿¿ water utility ratings are not immediately affected by the worst one-year drought in the history of the state, according to a new report issued Wednesday by Fitch Ratings.

⿿Negative ratings pressures could emerge if the drought continues into 2012 forcing water utilities to escalate conservation measures and negatively affecting financial performance,⿝ said Doug Scott, managing director at Fitch.

Due to long-term drought planning at the local and state level, the rising water demand of customers has generally been met by municipal water supplies.
