Gas Prices Drop Amid A Volatile Market

By Tampa Bay Business Journal

Retail gas prices fell for the past month as the price of oil continued to drop.

â¿¿Although oil prices increased last week, consumers will not likely see pump prices rise but instead remain relatively unchanged from last week's averages," said Jessica Brady, spokeswoman for AAA Auto Club South.

Oil prices made minimal gains last week after U.S. Department of Labor reports showed September's payrolls increased by 103,000 workers with an initial growth forecast of 60,000.

The national average price of regular unleaded gasoline is $3.39 a gallon, 3 cents less than last week. Floridaâ¿¿s average price of $3.35 fell 4 cents last week.

Average retail gas prices in Tampa fell 3.6 cents a gallon in the past week, averaging $3.25 a gallon, according to TampaGasprices.com. Gas prices Sunday were 54.5 cents a gallon higher than a year ago and 27.5 cents a gallon lower than a month ago.

Volatility can be expected, said Patrick DeHaan, GasBuddy.com senior petroleum analyst, in a statement. ⿿What this means for motorists is a continued roller coaster ride at the gas pump.⿝
