NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- An Italian appeals court Monday overturned the conviction of Amanda Knox on charges of killing her British roommate in 2007. A CBS News report said the murder conviction was thrown out by the jury, and that Knox would be released from prison immediately. The decision comes after Knox and former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito had been convicted in 2009 of the sexual assault and murder of Meredith Kercher.
"Amanda Knox is free," the judge said at the decision. He also stated that Sollecito was free. Cheers were heard inside the courtroom and Knox began to sob upon hearing the judgment. --Written by Joe Deaux in New York. >To submit a news tip, send an email to: firstname.lastname@example.org
