Solon Corp. has started operations at a 15-megawatt solar power plant in California.

The Tucson-based company, which has facilities in Phoenix, built the project near Fresno for Pacific Gas & Electric Co. The plant is part of PG&Eâ¿¿s plan to implement 250 megawatts of utility-owned solar power.

The project started construction in May. It is the second one Solon has built for PG&E. The first was a photovoltaic pilot project in 2009.

Solon had been building panels at a manufacturing facility in Tucson but was expected to close the manufacturing lines this month. The company now is focused on power plant development.
