The India Fund, Inc. (NYSE: IFN; the “Fund”) announced today a distribution of $0.84 per share payable on October 14, 2011 in cash or stock pursuant to the Fund’s dividend reinvestment and cash purchase plan to the shareholders of record on October 3, 2011. The ex date of the dividend is September 29, 2011. The distribution represents the undistributed amount of the Fund’s net investment income and net capital gains for the 2010 calendar year. This distribution includes $0.02 per share of net investment income, $0.09 per share of short-term capital gains and $0.73 per share of long-term capital gains. The per share amount of the distribution may increase from the amount announced today if on the record date there are fewer outstanding shares as a result of the Fund’s semi-annual repurchase offer for up to 5% of its outstanding shares which will expire on September 16, 2011.

The Fund is a closed-end management investment company that seeks long-term capital appreciation by investing primarily in Indian equity securities. The Fund conducts semi-annual repurchase offers and is traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the trading symbol “IFN.”
