Koss Corporation Stock Downgraded (KOSS)

NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Koss Corporation (Nasdaq: KOSS) has been downgraded by TheStreet Ratings from buy to hold. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its compelling growth in net income, notable return on equity and expanding profit margins. However, as a counter to these strengths, we find that we feel that the company's cash flow from its operations has been weak overall.

Highlights from the ratings report include:
  • The net income growth from the same quarter one year ago has significantly exceeded that of the S&P 500 and the Household Durables industry. The net income increased by 118.8% when compared to the same quarter one year prior, rising from $0.29 million to $0.64 million.
  • The company's current return on equity greatly increased when compared to its ROE from the same quarter one year prior. This is a signal of significant strength within the corporation. Compared to other companies in the Household Durables industry and the overall market, KOSS CORP's return on equity exceeds that of both the industry average and the S&P 500.
  • KOSS's debt-to-equity ratio is very low at 0.26 and is currently below that of the industry average, implying that there has been very successful management of debt levels. Despite the fact that KOSS's debt-to-equity ratio is low, the quick ratio, which is currently 0.66, displays a potential problem in covering short-term cash needs.
  • KOSS CORP reported significant earnings per share improvement in the most recent quarter compared to the same quarter a year ago. This company has not demonstrated a clear trend in earnings over the past two years, making it difficult to accurately predict earnings for the coming year. During the past fiscal year, KOSS CORP reported poor results of -$0.48 versus -$0.03 in the prior year.
  • Net operating cash flow has significantly decreased to -$0.05 million or 102.95% when compared to the same quarter last year. In addition, when comparing the cash generation rate to the industry average, the firm's growth is significantly lower.

Koss Corporation designs, manufactures, and sells stereo headphones and related accessory products. The company has a P/E ratio of 20, equal to the average consumer durables industry P/E ratio and above the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. Koss has a market cap of $44.2 million and is part of the consumer goods sector and consumer durables industry. Shares are up 9% year to date as of the close of trading on Tuesday.
