NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- eMagin Corporation (AMEX: EMAN) has been downgraded by TheStreet Ratings from buy to hold. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its solid stock price performance, largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures and notable return on equity. However, as a counter to these strengths, we also find weaknesses including unimpressive growth in net income, weak operating cash flow and feeble growth in the company's earnings per share.

Highlights from the ratings report include:
  • Net operating cash flow has decreased to $0.80 million or 45.63% when compared to the same quarter last year. In addition, when comparing to the industry average, the firm's growth rate is much lower.
  • The company, on the basis of change in net income from the same quarter one year ago, has significantly underperformed when compared to that of the S&P 500 and the Electronic Equipment, Instruments & Components industry. The net income has significantly decreased by 132.0% when compared to the same quarter one year ago, falling from $0.88 million to -$0.28 million.
  • 41.90% is the gross profit margin for EMAGIN CORP which we consider to be strong. Despite the high profit margin, it has decreased significantly from the same period last year. Despite the mixed results of the gross profit margin, the net profit margin of -5.20% trails the industry average.
  • Current return on equity exceeded its ROE from the same quarter one year prior. This is a clear sign of strength within the company. Compared to other companies in the Electronic Equipment, Instruments & Components industry and the overall market, EMAGIN CORP's return on equity significantly exceeds that of both the industry average and the S&P 500.
  • EMAN has no debt to speak of therefore resulting in a debt-to-equity ratio of zero, which we consider to be a relatively favorable sign. Along with this, the company maintains a quick ratio of 3.06, which clearly demonstrates the ability to cover short-term cash needs.

eMagin Corporation manufactures microdisplays using organic light emitting diode technology (OLED). It designs, develops, manufactures, and markets OLED on silicon microdisplays; virtual imaging products, which utilize OLED microdisplays; and related products. The company has a P/E ratio of 10, equal to the average electronics industry P/E ratio and below the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17.7. eMagin has a market cap of $97.6 million and is part of the technology sector and electronics industry.
