NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- San Francisco-based IT networking equipment company Riverbed Technology (RVBD) reported second-quarter profit of 21 cents a share versus the average earnings estimate of analysts of 21 cents a share. During the same time last year, the company reported earnings per share of 13 cents.

However, revenue rose to $170.3 million, below expectations for revenue of $172.9 million. During the year-ago period, the company reported revenue of $126.23 million.

Shares were plunging 23.2% to $31.81.


iPhone and iPad maker Apple ( AAPL - Get Report) reported third-quarter adjusted earnings of $7.79 a share, up from $3.51 a share last year. Analysts had expected earnings of $5.80 a share.

Apple shares were popping 5.6% to $397.82.


American Airlines parent AMR Corp. ( AMR) reported a second-quarter loss of 85 cents a share, compared with loss of 3 cents a share a year ago. Analysts, on average, were expecting a loss of 81 cents a share.

The airline also announced the largest aircraft order in history on Wednesday, saying it will order a total of 460 narrow-body jets from both Boeing ( BA) and Airbus.

Shares were rising 3.7% to $5.11.


Cnooc ( CEO), one of China's three state-owned oil and gas producers, agreed to buy Canadian oil sands producer Opti Canada for $2.1 billion. Cnooc shares were losing 3.7% to $226.


Mexican restaurant operator Chipotle Mexican Grill ( CMG - Get Report) reported second-quarter earnings of $1.59 a share versus the average analyst estimate of $1.68 a share. During the same time last year, the company reported earnings of $1.46 a share.

Shares fell 2.9% to $323.99.


Cleaning products company Ecolab ( ECL - Get Report) agreed to acquire water treatment company Nalco Holding ( NLC) in a deal valued at $5.4 billion. The total transaction value, including debt, is $8.1 billion. Ecolab shares were losing 2.7% at $53.90.


Internet giant Yahoo! ( YHOO) beat second-quarter profit, but missed estimates on the top line. The company earned 19 cents a share on an adjusted basis on revenue of $1.07 billion. Analysts were calling for a profit of 18 cents a share on revenue of $1.12 billion. In its second-quarter last year, Yahoo! earned 15 cents a share on revenue of $1.1 billion.

Yahoo! shares were falling 2.1% to $14.28.


Investment firm BlackRock ( BLK - Get Report) has reported second-quarter profit of $3 a share vs. the consensus target of $2.88 and last year's profit of $2.37 a share.

Shares were rising 2.1% to $187.50.


Online commerce company eBay ( EBAY - Get Report) is expected to second-quarter profit of 46 cents a share compared with last year's earnings per share of 40 cents.

Shares were rising 1.2% to $34.15.


Drug company Abbott Laboratories ( ABT - Get Report) reported second-quarter earnings of $1.12 a share vs. the average analyst estimate of $1.11 a share and last year's earnings per share of $1.01.

Shares were rising 1.1% to $53.49.


Chipmaker Intel ( INTC - Get Report) is expected to report second-quarter profit of 51 cents a share Wednesday, unchanged from the same time last year.

Shares were up 0.8% to $23.25


Global payments firm American Express ( AXP - Get Report) is expected to report second-quarter earnings of 99 cents a share after the markets close Wednesday versus last year's earnings of 84 cents a share.

Shares were up 0.4% to $52.


Industrial giant United Technologies ( UTX - Get Report) said Wednesday it was raising its full-year forecast as second-quarter earnings rose to $1.45 a share, up from $1.20 a share a year earlier. Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expected United Technologies to earn $1.41 a share in the quarter.

Shares were up 0.1% to $88.93.


PNC Financial Services ( PNC - Get Report) reported second-quarter earnings of $1.67 a share versus the average analyst estimate of $1.46 a share. Earnings per share were $1.47 a share the same time last year.

Shares were trading sideways at $55.85.
