MRV Communications™, Inc. (OTC Pink Sheets: MRVC) (“MRV” or the “Company”), a leading provider of optical communications network infrastructure equipment and integration and managed services, and Symmetricom®, Inc. (NASDAQ:SYMM), a world-wide leader in precision time and frequency technologies, today announced MRV’s participation in Symmetricom’s SyncWorld™ Ecosystem Program, to support interoperability and ensure the deployment of MRV’s OptiSwitch ® 900 Carrier Ethernet Access Platform, a proven mobile backhaul solution. In order to meet new synchronization and timing requirements that support the transition to packetized backhaul networks and 4G/LTE mobile platforms, Symmetricom established the SyncWorld™ Ecosystem Program to enable interoperability and cooperation among vendors that will deliver on service providers’ advanced networking requirements. Today’s mobile backhaul networks are transitioning from TDM to packet-based services because TDM expansion is expensive to implement and lacks the scalability required to meet mobile traffic growth requirements. As mobile backhaul networks are upgraded to Ethernet, the base stations become isolated from the synchronization chain that was carried over TDM infrastructure. To solve this problem, together MRV and Symmetricom have completed comprehensive timing and synchronization interoperability tests during various industry events which validated deployment scenarios, such as synchronization for LTE mobile backhaul. These tests leveraged MRV’s OptiSwitch 900 Carrier Ethernet Access Platform and Symmetricom’s TimeProvider® 5000 Grand Master clock, ensuring precise synchronization and timing over the Ethernet and IP packet-switched mobile networks. “We are excited to have MRV join the SyncWorld Ecosystem Program and support interoperability among all the elements of the mobile value chain,” said Manish Gupta, Vice President Marketing for Symmetricom. “Deployments of proven solutions are essential to meet service provider demand for the accelerated introduction of next-generation services.” “Today timing and synchronization are critical as mobile operators migrate to IP/Ethernet backhaul. The joint MRV-Symmetricom solution ensures the deployment of tested and proven mobile Ethernet backhaul solutions with precise timing and synchronization,” said Zeev Draer, Vice President Strategic Marketing for MRV’s Optical Communications Systems™ (OCS) division. “Our collaboration with Symmetricom enriches our solutions portfolio and allows us to combine a mix of superior timing and synchronization technologies with our field-proven Carrier Ethernet and MPLS access technology in order to deliver a versatile backhaul solution.”
