NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Intersections (Nasdaq: INTX) has been upgraded by TheStreet Ratings from hold to buy. The company's strengths can be seen in multiple areas, such as its revenue growth, largely solid financial position with reasonable debt levels by most measures, solid stock price performance, impressive record of earnings per share growth and compelling growth in net income. Although the company may harbor some minor weaknesses, we feel they are unlikely to have a significant impact on results.

Highlights from the ratings report include:
  • The net income growth from the same quarter one year ago has significantly exceeded that of the S&P 500 and the Commercial Services & Supplies industry. The net income increased by 270.8% when compared to the same quarter one year prior, rising from -$3.49 million to $5.95 million.
  • INTERSECTIONS INC reported significant earnings per share improvement in the most recent quarter compared to the same quarter a year ago. The company has demonstrated a pattern of positive earnings per share growth over the past two years. During the past fiscal year, INTERSECTIONS INC increased its bottom line by earning $0.80 versus $0.04 in the prior year.
  • Powered by its strong earnings growth of 293.75% and other important driving factors, this stock has surged by 168.38% over the past year, outperforming the rise in the S&P 500 Index during the same period. Turning to the future, naturally, any stock can fall in a major bear market. However, in almost any other environment, the stock should continue to move higher despite the fact that it has already enjoyed nice gains in the past year.
  • Although INTX's debt-to-equity ratio of 0.04 is very low, it is currently higher than that of the industry average. Along with the favorable debt-to-equity ratio, the company maintains an adequate quick ratio of 1.01, which illustrates the ability to avoid short-term cash problems.
  • INTX's revenue growth has slightly outpaced the industry average of 2.4%. Since the same quarter one year prior, revenues slightly increased by 2.2%. Growth in the company's revenue appears to have helped boost the earnings per share.

Intersections Inc. provides branded and fully customized identity management solutions. The company has a P/E ratio of 18.5, above the average diversified services industry P/E ratio of 13.5 and above the S&P 500 P/E ratio of 17. Intersections has a market cap of $270.2 million and is part of the services sector and diversified services industry. Shares are up 43.7% year to date as of the close of trading on Friday.
