NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Consumer electronics retailer Best Buy ( BBY - Get Report) fell 5.2% to $30.19 at the closing bell Thursday after exhibiting strength on better-than-expected fourth-quarter earnings. Adjusted earnings were $1.98 a share, surpassings expectations of $1.85 a share. Still, the company's full-year expecations lagged analyst estimates.


Shares of software company Red Hat ( RHT) ended 19.4% higher at $47.71 after reporting a 43% increase in fourth-quarter profit.

Chipmaker Micron ( MU - Get Report) popped 7.8% to $11.44 after reporting better-than-expected second-quarter profit.

Rio Tinto ( RIO) gained 1.6% to $68.63 and BHP Billiton ( BHP) added 1.3% at $91.23 after the mining giants scored a victory in a tax dispute in Australia.


Software developer Oracle ( ORCL - Get Report) was up 2.4% to $32.16 ahead of its third-quarter earnings report after the closing bell Thursday. Analysts expected Oracle to earn 50 cents a share.

Banco Santander ( STD) rose 1.6% to $12.15 and Banco Bilbao Vizcaya Argentaria ( BBVA) gained 1.7% to $12.80 after Moody's cut the ratings of 30 Spanish banks amid the collapse of the Portuguese minority government, but left its view of the Santander, BBVA and La Caixa unchanged.


Foodmaker ConAgra Foods ( CAG - Get Report) traded up 2% at $23.39 after posting third-quarter earnings of 50 cents a share. Its earnings topped the consensus estimate of 47 cents.


BlackBerry maker Research In Motion ( RIMM) rose 3.1% to $64.03 ahead of its fourth-quarter earnings report after the markets close Thursday. Analysts expected earinings of $1.76 a share.
