BEIJING ( TheStreet) -- Starbucks ( SBUX) plans to launch its "Via" instant coffee packets in China beginning in April.

The coffee packets will be available in more than 800 stores across China, Hong Kong, and Taiwan beginning on April 6, said John Culver, president of Starbucks, Tuesday at a news conference in Beijing, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Via will also be distributed in hotels, entertainment venues and grocery and convenient stores, Culver said. He didn't disclose a timeline for adding Via to these locations.

Culver said Starbucks aims to expand its packaged-goods offerings in China and will seek to acquire companies and brands in the country, the Journal reported.

"We see a big opportunity in packaged goods in China," Culver said.
