MRV Communications, Inc. (OTC Pink Sheets: MRVC) (“MRV” or the “Company”), a leading provider of optical communications network infrastructure equipment and integration and managed services, today announced that the Company’s Optical Communications Systems (OCS) division participated in interoperability testing with the new CableLabs® specifications for DOCSIS Provisioning of EPON (DPoE™). DPoE 1.0 specifications were announced at the Cable-Tec Expo in October of 2010. The first interoperability testing was concluded at CableLabs from January 24-28, 2011 and included chip and component manufacturers and equipment vendors as well as system integrators. Version 1.0 of the DPoE specifications provided the basis for the interoperability event. DPoE specifications provide requirements for Ethernet Passive Optical Network (EPON) equipment to be provisioned using current DOCSIS provisioning systems and service concepts. The specifications also define requirements and functionality to support Metro Ethernet Forum (MEF) Ethernet Private Line (EPL) service for business customers. The CableLabs events provide vendors with an informal setting to test the ability of their products to interoperate with other devices in an end-to-end system.

During the event, MRV OCS showcased its OptiSwitch® Carrier Ethernet Access solution and worked alongside other vendors, demonstrating a high level of interoperability between eight DPoE Systems, seven DPoE ONUs, and four Ethernet Demarcation Devices. The event focused on PON-layer registration, provisioning, and operational systems support interfaces (OSSI).

“We are excited to have taken part in testing the interoperability specifications that will allow multiple system operators (MSOs) to invest in EPON equipment along with offering MEF-compliant Ethernet services. This was evidenced in the CableLabs interoperability event by our OptiSwitch® and its MEF powered OAM capabilities,” said Mr. Barry Gorsun, President of MRV’s OCS division. “Interoperability will play a critical role as service providers expand their networks and enrich their Ethernet services offerings to meet the demand for additional bandwidth capacity driven by high-bandwidth applications such as IPTV, streaming video, peer-to-peer networking, and content-rich websites continues to grow.”
