Hawaiian Electric Co. and the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers Local 1260 are continuing contract negotiations Monday.

The contract extension that the unionized members are currently working under is set to expire Monday. About 54 percent, or a total of 1,280 workers from Hawaiian Electric Co., Maui Electric Co. and Hawaii Electric Light Co., will be affected.

A spokesman for Hawaiian Electric told PBN that the company is hopeful about reaching an agreement that will be fair to both its employees and its customers.

A representative from the International Brotherhood of Electric Workers Local 1260 could not be reached for comment.
