SolarCity Buys Maryland Installer

SolarCity acquired a Maryland solar installer on its way to expanding its solar installation business to the East Coast.

Foster City-based SolarCity is a rapidly growing installer, with 1,000 employees. It picked up 12 more with the acquisition of Clean Currents Solar, which targets the state of Maryland and the Washington D.C. Area. SolarCity, through a spokesperson, said it plans to hire 30 more for the new outpost in Silver Springs Maryland.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The company said it would launch it's solar leasing product in mid February.
