More than 11,000 solar panels will be installed at Poultry producer Perdue Incâ¿¿s Salisbury headquarters and a company feed mill in Bridgeville, Del.

It is expected to be one of the largest commercially-owned solar power systems in the eastern U.S.

Rockville-based Standard Solar Inc. will install the solar power systems, and expects to complete the project by September. Washington Gas Energy Services will own them, and will sell Perdue the electricity generated at a fixed price, under a 15-year agreement.

The panels will generate enough electricity to power as much as 90 percent of Perdueâ¿¿s needs.

The ground mounted panels would cover the equivalent of 10 football fields.
