More than 60 percent of the votes in Triangle Business Journalâ¿¿s latest online poll believe that Duke Energyâ¿¿s proposed purchase of Progress Energy will be bad for the Raleigh-Durham area.

From Jan. 10, the day Charlotte-based Duke (NYSE: DUK) announced its plans to buy Progress (NYSE: PGN), until Jan. 18, visitors to were asked, ⿿Will Duke Energy's purchase of Progress Energy be good for the Triangle?⿝

Of the 647 votes in the unscientific survey, 61 percent were cast for the answer ⿿No.⿝ Only 13 percent of voters indicated that they believe the deal will be positive for the Triangle, while 26 percent said that it is too early to tell.

The comments on the poll mirrored the poll results. One poster summed up the anti-deal sentiment as follows: ⿿It's curtains for the Triangle.⿝
