Lykins Cos. Inc. purchased Brinkman Oil Co., expanding its wholesale and retail petroleum sales presence in Northern Kentucky.

Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

While the companyâ¿¿s name will change, all of Brinkman Oilâ¿¿s staff, including its owner, Emma Obertate, will remain with the company.

⿿I⿿m very excited about this consolidation. It⿿s the combination of two great companies combining resources and buying power to deliver even better products and customer service than each of our individual companies had already achieved and delivered to customers,⿝ Obertate said in a news release.

Brinkman Oil, founded in 1971 by Obertateâ¿¿s father Richard Brinkman, services Boone, Kenton, Campbell, Grant, Gallatin and Pendleton counties.

Milford-based Lykins Oil was the seventh-largest private company in the Tri-State, with 2009 revenue of $651 million, according to Courier research. Employing 180 people, Lykins provides branded fuels, wholesale fuels, commercial, transportation and home heating oil and propane to customers in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana, as well as throughout the Midwest and the Southeast U.S.
