Alabama Power: About 900 Without Electricity

By Birmingham Business Journal

Only about 900 Alabama Power Co. customers are currently without power, according to Michael Sznajderman, a public relations official for the company.

In Jefferson and Shelby Counties, he said there are around 150 customers without power.

Most of the outages, around 560, are in the southeastern portion of the state, according to Sznajderman.

The peak outage was around 7 a.m., when approximately 2,500 statewide were without power, he said.

The company had called in out-of-state crews in anticipation of the situation, but he said it appears they will not be needed and will likely be released around the middle of the day.

Sznajderman credited the company's tree-trimming efforts over the past year helped keep outages to a minimum because they removed limbs likely to fall in storms.
