Jacksonville gas prices rose 3 cents over the past week even though the price of crude oil closed at $3.35 a barrel less than the week before.

The average cost of a gallon of regular gas is $3.06 in Jacksonville, up from $3.03 a week ago; $3.12 in Florida, up from $3.10; and $3.09 nationally, up from $3.07. The Jacksonville price is 11 cents higher than a month ago and 33 cents higher than a year ago.

⿿Motorists will get a break at the pump this week as retail gas prices are expected to drop,⿝ said Jessica Brady, public relations manager of AAA Auto Club South. ⿿A strong U.S. dollar also helped keep oil prices low last week, reducing its appeal as a commodity.

⿿News surfaced that the Trans-Alaska Pipeline had to shut down on Saturday after reports of a leak. The leak caused BP to reduce oil production at Alaska⿿s North Slope by 95 percent. At this point it is not expected to affect the price of oil or retail gas prices.⿝
